Robots, Mobile, and Sustainability: NRA Show 2016

Under sunny skies, the National Restaurant Association’s NRA Show 2016 kicked off on Saturday at McCormick Place in Chicago. Restaurateurs, executives, and thought leaders from every corner of the restaurant industry converged to bring their perspectives and insights on the changes they’ve been seeing, particularly when it comes to technology. Here are some highlights from day one of the show.

NRA Show 2016 attendees woke to beautiful blue skies and scenic views of the Chicago harbourfront.

And inside the convention space, attendees treated themselves to delicious culinary creations by top brand in the industry.

Some robots even made an appearance on the exhibition floor! Like many others, the restaurant industry is turning to automation to decrease operating costs and increase efficiency. (We recently shared our stance on automation within the hospitality industry.)

Celebrity chef Rick Bayless gave a talk on the impact of food waste and what restaurateurs can do to minimize it in their operations.

There were plenty of great insights about the role of technology in the restaurant industry. Thought leaders covered everything from artificial intelligence to mobile guest engagement to the importance of creating an emotional connection with one’s guests.

According to a report by Restaurant News magazine, most experts who spoke at NRA Show 2016 agree that technology is driving enormous change both within the restaurant industry and outside of it.
